Galvanostatic and microscopic studies of nodulation during copper electrolysis

The galvanostatic technique on a laboratory scale has been shown to be a useful tool in detecting the presence of nodules on the cathode during copper electrodeposition by using the value of the starting electrolytic potential and by the presence of a cathodic polarization peak on the potential–time curve. Studying the morphology of the deposit with a scanning electron microscope at various magnifications confirmed the galvanostatic results. It is postulated that inappropriate concentrations and/or ratios of the additives (thiourea, gelatin and chloride ions) are associated with a certain current density that generates intergranular microcracks due to adsorption of the additives and leads to the formation of nodules at the macroscale.     

Possible use of methylbenzenes as electrolyte additives for improving the overcharge tolerances of Li-ion batteries

Based on the voltammetric behaviour of a series of methyl-substituted benzenes in 1M LiPF₆/EC-DMC electrolyte, xylene was selected and tested as an electrolyte additive for overcharge protection of Li-ion batteries. From the overcharge curves, CV behaviour and SEM observations of the cells in the presence of xylene, it was found that the additive can polymerize at the overcharged voltage to form a dense layer of isolating polymer film at the cathode surface, which blocks off further oxidation of the electroactive material and electrolyte and, therefore, improves the overcharge tolerance of the Li-ion battery. In addition, the xylene additive has shown only a slight influence on the cycling behaviour.

RECURSIVE GENERALIZED M ESTIMATES FOR AUTOREGRESSIVE MOVING-AVERAGE MODELS

Abstract. Outliers in time series seriously affect conventional parameter estimates. In this paper a robust recursive estimation procedure for the parameters of auto-regressve moving-average models with additive outliers is proposed. Using 'cleaned' residuals from an initial robust fit of an autoregression of high order as input, bounded influence regression is applied recursively. The proposal follows certain ideas of Hannan and Rissanen, who suggested a three-stage procedure for order and parameter estimation in a conventional setting.
A Monte Carlo study is performed to investigate the robustness properties of the proposed class of estimates and to compare them with various other suggestions, including least squares, M estimates, residual autocovariance and truncated residual autocovariance estimates. The results show that the recursive generalized M estimates compare favourably with them. Finally, possible modifications to master even vigourous situations are suggested.     

Interaction of Aluminum with Detonation Products

A method of electrical conductivity and an analysis of recovered explosion products are used to study interaction of aluminum with detonation products of condensed high explosives. The electrical conductivity of HMX/Al and RDX/Al mixtures is inhomogeneous; a region with the maximum electrical conductivity is adjacent to the detonation front, whereas the electrical conductivity decreases with distance from the front. If the wave is incident onto a wall, the electrical resistance of the composite high explosive increases, which indicates that the high-conducting zone disappears. The electrical conductivity, resistance of the conducting zone, and the time of resistance growth are found as functions of the particle size of the additive. The results obtained confirm the reaction of the metal additive with detonation products in a microsecond range of time. An analysis of condensed explosion products shows that the reaction of aluminum with detonation products proceeds on the particle surface. 有机化合物及聚合物的计算机辅助红外光谱法鉴定

建立了计算机辅助红外光谱法鉴定有机化合物及聚合物的新方法,介绍了计算有机化合物和聚合物的一些经验公式。程序设计首先收集、整理常用聚合物、有机添加剂和有机小分子的红外光谱数据,然后提取反映该物质特征的吸收峰数据,制作ACCESS数据库,利用VisualBasicDAO数据链接方式,根据查询要求动态链接数据库,利用要求查询的聚合物特性,经过经验公式的算法翻译,生成SQL查询语句进行查询。     

Ultra-high pressure sterilization of powdery food stuff—a new application of a roller compactor

A new non-heating technique was developed for the sterilization of food stuff. Applying a roller compactor, ultra-high pressure sterilization has experimentally demonstrated its ability to sterilize dry powders, such as corn flour and Chinese herbs, with little quality deterioration. Also, the degree of food sterilization was found correlated well with the linear press forces between the rollers, roller gaps, and number of compaction passes. In comparison to the conventional high pressure sterilization technique, the new dry continuous processing method has the advantage of lower investment cost and is more versatile for sterilizing various food powders.
